About Chef Hal
A Chef Dedicated to Teaching the Next Generation About Real Food
Chef Hal is a professional chef with over 25 years of experience in the culinary and hospitality industry.
Throughout his career, he has worked in restaurants, private clubs, catering environments, and learned from highly respected chefs, building a deep understanding of food, technique, and flavor from every angle.
Today, he uses that experience for something more personal: teaching children about real food, helping them understand its nutritional value, why it’s important for their bodies, and how to make it part of a healthy lifestyle — while also teaching them how to prepare and enjoy it.
A Life Built in the Kitchen
Hal’s journey started with formal training in culinary arts and hospitality management, earning both an associate and bachelor’s degree in the field.
From there, he went on to:
- Train under accomplished and highly regarded chefs
- Compete in American Culinary Federation (ACF) competitions, earning gold medals
- Appear on food television programs, including Food Network
- Work across a wide range of culinary environments and cuisines
- Develop private meal plans and custom dining experiences for clients
- Cater everything from intimate dinners to large-scale events
This breadth of experience gave him not just technical skill — but a deep understanding of how food connects to people’s lives.
From Professional Kitchens to Real Impact
After decades in the industry, Hal began focusing on a different question: What if people actually understood the food they were eating?
That question led him away from purely restaurant-focused work and toward food education — especially for children.
He noticed a growing gap:
- Many kids were disconnected from real ingredients
- Processed foods had become the default
- Basic cooking knowledge was disappearing
- And most children weren’t being taught how food affects their bodies
That realization became the foundation for Cooking With Hal.
Teaching Through Experience, Not Lectures
Hal’s approach is simple:
Kids don’t need to be told to eat better — they need to experience why it matters. In every session, he combines cooking with conversation, showing children:
- What real ingredients look like
- How food is prepared
- How it tastes when made fresh and properly
- And how it affects energy, focus, and well-being
The goal is not just education — it’s connection. When kids cook and taste real food themselves, understanding becomes instinctive.
A Focus on Real Food and Real Understanding
Chef Hal’s philosophy is grounded in clarity: Food should be understood, not overcomplicated.
He emphasizes:
- Whole, nutrient-dense ingredients
- Hands-on learning over passive instruction
- Helping kids recognize the difference between real food and highly processed alternatives
This is not about restriction or elimination — it’s about awareness.
Recognition and Leadership
In addition to his hands-on teaching work, Hal is also active in community wellness leadership, including:
- Chairman on the Board for Child Wellness, American Culinary Federation
- Vice President of the Seaford Wellness Council
These roles allow him to extend his impact beyond individual classrooms and into broader community initiatives focused on health and education.
Why He Does This Work
After more than two decades in professional kitchens, Chef Hal’s focus has shifted from cooking for people to teaching people, especially children.
Because the habits formed early often last a lifetime — and he believes those habits should be built on understanding, not confusion.
Today’s Mission
Chef Hal’s mission is simple:
To help children understand real food, learn how to prepare it, and build lifelong habits that support their health and well-being.
He does this through cooking, education, and hands-on experiences that make food both meaningful and memorable.
